Fabulous Feature Walls in Tiles

A popular design concept is the feature wall. They are popular with anyone seeking to create a truly unique and personal design element to a room. They can also fun, as there are no rules as to what you can and can’t do…  And, they don’t have to cost the earth either!

The idea of a feature wall is that it contrasts with what surrounds it and is a strong décor element, which is arresting and helps define a room’s style. For bathrooms and kitchens, tiles are the perfect material to use, as the choice is extensive. To work well, a feature wall does not need to be a large area. Sometimes, an intense splash of colour as a splashback, just the small area behind a bathroom basin is all that is needed to add that design tonic and turn a bland bathroom into something that looks rather special.

Likewise, be careful that you select similar thickness of tiles. Otherwise, you may find achieving a flat surface can be tricky.  Here, the new Alhambra range of highly decorative wall tiles, which comes in sets of six mixed tiles, has been framed and surrounded by a plain field tile, to create a strong Spanish flavour.

Ceramic tiles which closely resemble wood and hessian are highly effective for those seeking a textured, organic feel. There are several current ranges which achieve this, including Strands, Moravia and Artwood.
